Distinguished NCCU alumnus Ernest Eugene Barnes Jr. attended then-called North Carolina College (N.C.C.) at Durham (1956-60) on a full athletics scholarship and majored in art. Courtesy of Virginia State University Virginia State University proudly announces that Thompson Hospitality, the nation’s largest black-owned and privately held hospitality company, will donate $1 million to the university. The generous donation made by Warren Thompson is a tribute to his parents, Fred and Ruby Thompson. Written By Morehouse School of Medicine Meharry Medical College’s School of Dentistry will launch a new innovation center to house the latest in dental technology and materials to prepare students for modern-day dental practice. By Nick Song, Maine Public In the two weeks she’s been working at the Cutler Health Center on UMaine’s Orono campus, physician assistant student Katie Bandstra says she’s seen at least 55 patients. “It’s mid-October, so we’re getting the flu season,” said Bandstra. “So a lot of patients have come in with acute respiratory viral illnesses.” Bandstra and classmate Maddie Vinet are second-year students at Morehouse School of Medicine, a historically Black medical school in Atlanta, Georgia. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. with ticket proceeds benefiting the Far Southeast Family Strengthening Collaborative, a local charitable organization dedicated to strengthening community relations. All who attend the game are asked to war orange, the color associated with the movement to end gun violence. Bozeman was fatally shot outside of a D.C. nightclub on September 24, 2023.
