By Alise Sloan First-year students at Florida A&M University are able to receive iPads and other digital supplies courtesy of the university. FAMU revealed the Digital Rattler Initiative in a collaboration with Apple in a press release earlier this month. During the spring semester, 800 iPad Pros will be given to first-year students at FAMU along with an Apple Pencil, Apple Smart Keyboard Folio and Apple Care + for Schools to provide technical support. Courtesy of Wilberforce University Nominations for the 2024 Grammy Awards were announced and despite outstanding work performed by the Wilberforce band and choir on the gospel album, The Now Testament, there was no nomination for that production.. The highly anticipated selections were streamed live but the Best Gospel Album category was not part of the live announcements. However, WU learned later that The Now Testament did not make the nominations list. Written By Quintessa Williams A new bill introduced in the Mississippi State Legislature may lead to the closure of three HBCUs: Mississippi Valley State University, Alcorn State University, and Jackson State University by June 2028. According to Senate Bill 2726 proposal, the State Institutions of Higher Learning must select three out of eight public universities by June 2025, with closure mandated by 2028. The bill was introduced by state Senator John Polk. According to Polk, the bill was introduced to address ‘decreased enrollment at the state public universities.’ The three HBCUs mentioned are a part of the Mississippi Institutes Of Higher Learning and could be impacted by the bill. Now a second-year astrophysics graduate student in the Fisk-Vanderbilt Master’s-to-Ph.D. Bridge Program, Shaniya is creating opportunities for young women of color that she would have hoped for in her own formative years.
